This policy explains what data the NZ1 Chat Overlay handles and how it is used. NZ1 Chat Overlay is a private, internal broadcast tool operated by NZ1 Aviation for the NZ1 Aviation YouTube channel (NZ1 Aviation). It is not offered to, sold to, or installed by anyone else.

What the tool does

During our live streams, an operator uses the tool to select individual viewer chat messages and display them as an on-screen graphic within the broadcast. Its only purpose is to let us answer viewer questions and acknowledge supporters on air, rather than having those messages scroll past unseen.

Use of YouTube API Services

NZ1 Chat Overlay uses YouTube API Services to read the live chat of our own live streams. By interacting with our streams you are also subject to the YouTube Terms of Service and the Google Privacy Policy.

The tool accesses YouTube data using a server-side API key. It does not use OAuth, does not ask any viewer to sign in, and cannot access any private account data, viewing history, subscriptions, or personal information held by Google.

What data is accessed

Only information that is already publicly visible in the live chat of our own streams:

• The public display name shown alongside a chat message
• The public channel profile image shown alongside a chat message
• The text of the chat message itself
• Whether the message was a Super Chat, and the amount YouTube displays publicly
• Public status flags YouTube provides for the chat — channel member, moderator, channel owner, verified

We do not access email addresses, payment details, IP addresses, location data, watch history, or any other personal information.

How data is stored

Chat messages are held in a rolling buffer of the most recent messages on our own server, kept only so the operator can scroll back a short way during a live stream. Older messages are discarded automatically as new ones arrive.

Nothing is kept after a stream ends beyond that rolling buffer, and there is no database, no archive, and no analytics on chat content. The buffer is cleared whenever the stream changes.

How data is shared

It isn't. Chat data is never sold, rented, transferred, or shared with any third party. It is not used for advertising, profiling, training machine learning models, or any purpose other than displaying a selected message on screen during the broadcast in which it was sent.

Access to the tool is restricted to our own stream operators by a shared secret, and it is not reachable by the public.

What appears on screen

When an operator selects a message, the display name, profile image, message text and any Super Chat amount are shown in the live broadcast. This is the same information already publicly visible to everyone watching the chat. Because our streams may be recorded or archived on YouTube, a displayed message may remain visible in the stream recording.

Cookies and tracking

Neither this page nor the tool uses cookies, analytics, advertising trackers, or any third-party scripts. No visitor data is collected from this website.

Children

The tool is not directed at children and collects no information from anyone directly. It only reads chat messages that viewers have already posted publicly on YouTube.

Changes

If this policy changes, the revised version will be posted on this page with an updated effective date.
